A Practical Recovery Mechanism for Blockchain Hardware Wallets

Published in IEEE Access, vol. 12, pp. 169928-169944, 2024

This work introduces a secure recovery mechanism for hardware wallets that preserves the unique security property of Unicity, crucial for protecting high-value cryptocurrency. Unlike traditional backups, it avoids cloning the private key by using Symmetric Secret Sharing, a Key Revocation Certificate, and Smart Contracts. This ensures wallet recovery without compromising security, outperforming existing methods and maintaining the integrity of the wallet’s design.

Mnemonic Phrase Management and SIM Based Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) for Mobile Wallets in Blockchain

Published in 2023 IEEE International Conference on Blockchain and Distributed Systems Security (ICBDS), 2023

The paper proposes a secure architecture for mobile blockchain wallets to address security challenges on mobile devices. It integrates a SIM card as a hardware component with a mnemonic phrase for Two-Factor Authentication (2FA). Additionally, it employs Shamir’s secret sharing scheme to improve the wallet’s security and robustness. The proposed design is analyzed for its resilience against various types of attacks, aiming to enhance the overall security of mobile blockchain wallets and promote wider adoption of blockchain technology.
